Tuition Grant Program

The Tuition Grant Program is intended to offer two Guild members, annually, tuition up to a maximum of $1000 each, so they may attend a woodworking class, workshop, or apprenticeship at a recognized school or with a recognized master. The purpose of the experience should be to introduce the participant to new woodworking skills, or to advance existing skills.

Applications for 2024 are CLOSED

Program Rules:

The application is simple. You only need to write an essay of about 300 words or so, answering the question, “How I will benefit from attending?” Also, please tell us, “How I will share my new knowledge with the rest of the Guild.”

  • An applicant must be a continuous member of the Guild between the time of the application and the completion of the class/workshop.
  • Recipients of grants may not apply for subsequent grants for 24 months after completion of a reimbursed program.
  • Current members of the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Woodworkers Guild are ineligible for a grant. A past board member is ineligible for twelve months after leaving the Board.
  • The selection committee will approve or reject the program and respond to the applicant within a reasonable period of time.
  • Applicants awarded the grants will be notified by US mail.
  • A recipient must attend the program specified on his or her application to exercise the grant. No substitute programs will be accepted.
  • The grant must be exercised within 12 months of the award date. Un-exercised grant funds revert to the Guild treasury.
  • The Minnesota Woodworkers Guild will reimburse the recipient up to $1000 toward tuition only upon presentation of documentation verifying the program was completed. Expenses other than tuition are not eligible for reimbursement. The Guild will pay tuition directly to the program if the recipient so requests.
