Upcoming Meetings

December 11, 2018: Tour of Christ Lutheran Church in Minneapolis' Longfellow neighborhood.

This National Historic Landmark is a museum of 20th Century architects and designers, including Eliel and Eero Saarinen, Hans Wegner, Charles and Ray Eames, Alvar Aalto, Grete Jalk, Harry Bertoia, Florence Knoll, Bruno Mathsson, Yngve Ekstrom, Richard Schultz and George Nelson.
  • This tour is open to all MNWG plus one guest. On-line registration and fee of $8.00 per person is required. Non or lapsed members will be prompted to join or renew membership at $30.00 per year. Because of tour group size limits we are hoping to repeat this tour in January.

The tour will include:

  • The Luther Room (the collection of mid-century furniture)
  • The Education wing (schoolroom furniture of the mid-century made by Wakefield & Cushman)
  • The Archive Room (original drawings by the architects of the buildings)
  • The Sanctuary (a stunning room for its space, light and material usage. The church recently received a surprise donation which enabled them to add a very fine organ.
Manufacturers represented are Knoll, Herman Miller, Rickberg, Stuart, G. Tanier (Hans Wegner) Lunning, Stendig, DUX, Scandinavian Design (Bruno Mathsson), British Chair Company, H Acton, Johnson Table Company and Design Craft.

COST: $8.00 per person
LOCATION: 3244 34th Ave South, Minneapolis, MN 55406.
    Upon arrival we will gather in the community building. As you approach the main entrance to the church, you'll see a central courtyard. The community hall is on the right side of the courtyard.
DATE & TIME: Tuesday, December 11. We will open the doors at 6:00 and begin the tour at 6:30.

Tuesday, January 15, 2019: HPLV Sprayers & Techniques

Wagner SprayTech has graciously offered to host our January meeting in their Innovation Center where we will see HVLP sprayers safely demonstrated. Wagner will present background information on how High Pressure Low Volume (HVLP) sprayers function along with a brief history of their company. A Wagner panel of experts will be on hand to answer our questions.
Wagner, founded in the 1940's is a global leader in the painting and decorating business. Wagner produces equipment sold under Wagner (consumer) and Titan (commercial) brands. See more at Wagner SprayTech and Titan Tool.

Tuesday, February 19, 2019: Seat Repair with Carole Magnuson

Join us to learn about repairing and replacing hand caned seats, pressed in case seats and rushed seats. Carole Magnuson, a long time guild member, is a trained furniture restorer and a 2002 graduate of the furniture wood finishing, repair and restoration program that was offered by Dakota Technical Center.
A particular area of focus for Carole has been chair repair and with that comes replacement of lots of caned and rushed seats.
Carole will outline techniques, pitfalls, tricks of the trade and sources for the materials needed to do repairs on caned, pressed in case and rushed seats.

Tuesday, March 19, 2019: Panel Discussion of Jointer/Planer and Combination machines

We have assembled a group of MNWG members who have chosen to upgrade or not to upgrade their jointer/planer machines. Each panel participant will be given 10 minutes to make a presentation, after which the panel will take questions from each other and the audience.
This meeting and topic have generated enthusiastic interest and promises to be very informative. If you have a recommendation for a panel participant, contact the program director: david.mitchell@usfamily.net.
