Upcoming Meetings

Tuesday Sept. 19th: Michael Speaker: Sculptor and Furniture Designer.

Our September presenter is artist and scuptor Michael Speaker. Michael comes from a multi-talented artistic family, with music at its roots. Although he studied music theory and played instruments as a child, music was not his calling.
After an undergraduate education in business, Michael achieved an MFA in painting from the University of Colorado in Boulder Colorado. These two elements of his formal training show the strong integration of right brain and left brain thinking that reveals itself in all his work.
He moved to Los Angeles working in the movie business as a scenic artist and as a special effects sculptor and model maker. Since the middle eighties he has been doing his own work as well as commissioned work. His work is mostly in private collections.
His presentation will focus on a desk in a most unusual sculptural form, the Renaissance source that inspired it and the challenges he faces in making it come to life. This will be a very unique presentation that will prompt dialogue and questions.
Please join us for an inspiring conversation about design, fine art, expressing one's talent and the fulfillment of a powerful calling to create. Bring your curiosity! All of us will take away new ideas to ponder.
Bring a carving of your own for show and tell!
